Luis Carlos Perez

SAXOFONISTA - COMPOSITOR - ARREGLISTA - DIRECTOR MUSICAL - EDUCADOR

Saxofonista y compositor panameño, nacido el 22 de agosto de 1978. Inicio la música a la edad de 9 años estudiando el órgano y a los 13 años tomo el saxofón como instrumento principal. Pérez estudio en el Conservatorio de Música de Panamá, Universidad de Panamá, Escuela Contemporánea de Música y recientemente culmino estudios de Maestría en Composición de Jazz en el Conservatorio de New England (NEC), Boston, Estados Unidos.  En NEC estudio con los maestros Danilo Pérez, Charlie Banacos, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone; y composición con los maestros Ken Schaphorst, John Mallia y Michael Gandolfi. Pérez fue galardonado con el Premio al Estudiante Sobresaliente y Emprendedor “NEC Tourjee Award”. También obtuvo una beca internacional de la Fundación Danilo Pérez. Ha tocado en diversas ediciones del Panama Jazz Festival, y festivales en Cuba, Chile, Estados Unidos y Europa. Pérez ha producido dieciseis ediciones del concierto navideño “Jazz en Belén”. Ha acompañado a artistas como Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Willie Colon, Gilberto Santarosa entre otros. Y tocado con los artistas de jazz Danilo Perez, Phil Ranelin, Luisito Quintero, Global Jazz Big Band, entre otros. Actualmente es miembro del proyecto Salsa Big Band de Ruben Blades y Roberto Delgado, es profesor en los programas educativos de la Fundación Danilo Pérez, y artista BG France.

Panamanian saxophonist and composer who was born on August 22, 1978. He started playing organ at the age of 9, and at 13 he took the saxophone as his main instrument. Perez had studied at the Panama Conservatory of Music, University of Panama, Panama Contemporary School and studied a Master Degree in Jazz Composition at New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. At NEC he studied with Danilo Perez, Charlie Banacos, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone; and studied composition with Ken Schaphorst, John Mallia and Michael Gandolfi. Perez was awarded as an outstanding scholarship and enterprise student with the NEC Alumni Tourjee Award. He was also awarded with an international scholarship from Danilo Perez Foundation. He has performed on several editions of the Panama Jazz Festival, besides festivals at Cuba, Chile, USA and Europe. Perez has produced sixteen editions of the christmas concert “Jazz en Belen” (Jazz at Bethlehem). He has accompanied artist such as Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Willie Colon, Gilberto Santarosa, among others. And has performed with the jazz artist Danilo Perez, Phil Ranelin, Luisito Quintero, the Global Jazz Big Band, among others. At the present, he is part of the Salsa Big Band project of Ruben Blades and Roberto Delgado, he teach at the Danilo Perez Foundation, and is BG France artist.
